Natural Acne Remedy

I recently did a post on my Instagram @melissa_hanson about pantothenic acid and how it helped clear up my acne. The dose that a doctor suggested to me was 500 mg at 24 pills per day. He said to space it out, so six pills four times per day. He said there are no side effects as it is only a B5 vitamin and if I took too much I would simply pee it out. No stress or harm to the kidneys or liver.

Sharing that information helped a lot of people all over the world. The before and after pictures I received were truly miraculous. A big question that I was posed with was what to do for acne scars. I put that question out to my Instagram family and got a lot of feedback! I am going to share the suggestions I received and your job is to do your homework and see which one is best for you. I would appreciate your feedback on which solution you end up choosing and how it works out for you.

Healing Acne Scars

Micro Needling

Micro needling is one remedy or solution that I got a lot of feedback on. Rodan and Fields makes one that you can find on Amazon ranging from $16-$200, so do your research and read the reviews. Some suggest using this in addition to hyaluronic acid. Micro needling is done by a dermatologist. It causes tiny pin pricks that stimulate the body to heal itself and stimulate collagen production in those areas. Derma rolling can be done at home and it's less expensive. If you buy your own derma roller make sure it’s at least .5 MM in size. A hyaluronic acid cream will make it glide over your face easily and help your skin heal faster. It is crucial that this tool stays sanitized to avoid infection.

Fractional CO2 Resurfacing Laser

Resurfacing laser works by stimulating the skin's collagen to fill in the areas of pitted acne scars. Most patients see between 50-70% improvement of acne scars after just one treatment.

Microdermabrasion

Best for mild acne scarring and consists of a small machine that removes the top layer of your skin through a series of office visits. As the skin repairs itself, surface scars become less visible.

Jessner Peel

Jessner's solution is available in one strength only, but the depth to which it penetrates your skin can be increased by applying several layers of the solution during a Jessner peel.

Brocco Fusion Sulforaphane Ointment

Helps reduce signs of aging, stretch marks, dark circles under eyes, cold sores, moles, acne scars, and more.

Vitamin C, Azaelic Acid and Niamicide

Vitamin C and azaelic acid help brighten your skin. Try alternating them every night. Then use niamicide in the morning to help brighten skin and balance the sebum (oil) production.

Pumpkin Enzyme Peel

Designed to exfoliate skin without irritation. It deeply hydrates and plumps the skin and you may notice a more even skin tone as well as reduced hyperpigmentation.

Frankincense Oil

It’s both cicatrisant and vulnerary, which basically means it helps heal wounds. This means it’s going to help acne lesions heal quickly and any resulting scabs or red marks will also be on their way out faster than normal.

Geranium Oil

Speed up the healing of wounds and acne scars due to its cicatrisant properties. Apply directly on scars with a Q-tip or mixed into your moisturizer.

Niacinamide Serum

Acts as a skin whitener and helps to fade acne scars, age spots and other types of hyperpigmentation. It has also been found to be beneficial in treating rosacea and eczema.

Rosehip Seed Oil

Contains retinoic acid which is a form of vitamin A, an antioxidant vitamin. When applied topically, retinoic acid can help regenerate skin cells, reduce hyperpigmentation and reduce the appearance of dark marks. Studies suggest that retinoic acid can also help promote collagen formation, especially in those with photodamaged skin.

Vitamin C Serum

Helps to lighten pigmentation and even out your skin tone. It also helps to improve red marks and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation as it boosts you skin's natural healing response.

Osea Skin Care

Ocean Cleansing Mud, Blemish Balm, Essential Corrective Complex and Red Algae Mask, all of which contain various essential oils have helped many clear their skin and improve scars. I’ve been using Osea for quite a while now and I am happy with the results. Shop Osea

Beauty Counter

One of the cleanest lines on the market. 3 of my favorite acne products are:

Charcoal Cleansing Bar: work soap into a lather with water, gently massage onto face and body, and rinse thoroughly.

Charcoal Mask: Use this mask 1x a week for a spa grade facial and 2-3x a week as a spot treatment.

Balancing Face Oil: Apply 4-6 drops onto face, alone or under moisturizer.

I also recommend switching to a non-clogging foundation. Theirs is more of a tinted moisturizer so be sure to pick up the concealer stick to hide those annoying “temporary residents.” To be sure the makeup you’re using now isn’t doing more damage, use the website EWG.org to check the safety ratings.
